GOMA – Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo, Congolese Minister of National Defense and Veterans Affairs, has been staying since Monday, June 12, 2023 in Goma in the province of North Kivu. This mission comes two months later and 12 days after his appointment as head of the Ministry of National Defense. It was with a message of adherence to President Tshisekedi’s vision that he was welcomed by the provincial authority.

“I send a message of unity to the population, to be behind the vision of the head of state who is motivated by peace, security throughout the country,” said Jean-Pierre Bemba, just after his welcome. by provincial authorities. And this, before inviting the various armed groups to lay down their arms to unite behind the vision of peace that animates the Head of State. “I call on armed groups to silence the guns and unite us all behind the Head of State’s vision for peace.”

After his welcome, Minister Bemba went to the Joint Coordination Center for Military Operations between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and the United Nations Stability Observation Mission in Congo (MONUSCO) to a strategy meeting. He is staying in Goma after the Congolese government obtained an assessment of the mandate of the regional forces of the East Africa Community (EAC).
