Ampara: Four officers were killed when a policeman opened fire on them at the Sri Lanka Temple police station.
Police Station Sergeant Kumara at Thirukovil, Ampara District, Sri Lanka. He had an altercation with the authorities there at midnight the day before yesterday. Puraputta, Naveen and Tushara were killed on the spot when the enraged policeman opened fire.
Kumara also fired at the vehicle when the informed senior officer arrived at the police station. An officer named Kather was seriously injured. He also died on the way to the hospital. Police Station Officer-in-Charge Dehikama, Driver Kumar and Sergeant Kandasamy were injured and are receiving treatment.
Kumara, who carried out the shooting, escaped with two guns and 19 grenades from the police station. He later surrendered at the Ethimala police station in Moneragala district. Police said Ethimala was his hometown. A serious investigation is underway as to whether he has links with terrorists.
