This Wednesday, June 14, the Holy See Press Office reported that Pope Francis’s doctors could authorize his discharge in the coming days because the recovery continues “normally.”

The Holy Father has been on the tenth floor of the Gemelli Hospital in Rome since last Wednesday, June 7, when underwent surgery on the abdomen due to risk of intestinal obstruction.

In the update on his state of health this Wednesday, June 14, the Vatican specified that the Pontiff “rested well during the night.”

Likewise, the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, announced: “Medical staff report that the clinical course is running smoothlywithout complications, so his discharge is expected in the next few days ”.

During the morning, Pope Francis dedicated himself to his work. Before eating, he went to the chapel of his private apartment, “where he withdrew in prayer and received the Eucharist.”

According to Bruni’s statement on June 7, “the operation, arranged in recent days by the medical team assisting the Holy Father, became necessary due to a closed laparocele that is causing recurrent, painful, and worsening subocclusive syndromes”.

The operation under general anesthesia passed without complications and during the postoperative period the clinical picture of the Pontiff has progressively evolved.
