MR. PRINCIPAL:

The 3rd National Survey of Social Perception of Science and Technology in Chile delivers positive figures, recognizing the innovative contribution of universities and reporting a slight decrease in the perception of risk associated with technological scientific progress.

These results reflect the importance that those surveyed attribute to innovation as a key element to improve the economic situation of the country and move towards a more egalitarian society. However, it is worrying that only 40% of the population believes that science, technology, knowledge and innovation have contributed to the development of Chile in the last two years.

We scientists know that various priority concerns of citizens (for example, economic ones) can be solved with more and better science and technology. We are making efforts to bring science to places close to the general public, such as educational communities, media and social networks, with appropriate language.

However, we have not yet succeeded in making Chilean entrepreneurs and businessmen understand and trust the relevant contribution that science can provide to them and to the country.

We would like more opportunities to contribute significantly to our development and that happens because the public knows us better and the companies support this task, which has its times, but also important achievements, key to our country.
