Full-back Tomás Tavares suffered a serious knee injury again, this Wednesday, and will be replaced by Bernardo Vital, from Estoril Praia, in the U-21 squad for the category’s European Championship.
«We had a very big unforeseen event with Tomás Tavares. Torn cruciate ligament in a knee. It is to be confirmed, but the indication is not good», began by saying the national under-21 coach, Rui Jorge, in statements to Canal 11.
“He recovered from a serious injury, he did a brilliant job these last few months, playing, he was training well and now he has this misfortune”, he added.
Remember that this is the second time that Tomás Tavares, side of Spartak Moscow, has this problem, which kept him away from the wide lawns for about a year, when he represented Basel.
Rui Jorge also took the opportunity to praise Bernardo Vital’s posture: «Before the call-up I told him that, from the outset, he would not go with us. He, knowing this, said right away that he would go just to train and behaved as I expected: exemplary! Now, with this unforeseen event, it will be Vital who will fill in the absence of Tomás Tavares.”
