Mattias Skjelmose (Trek) won stage 3 of the Tour de Suisse, 143.8 kilometers between Tafers and the Villars-sur-Ollon hilltop finish. The Dane is the overall leader.

Alexander Kamp, Lilian Calmejane, Paul Ourselin and Nickolas Zukowsky starred in the breakaway of the day, controlled at all times by the peloton. Trek even led the actions during part of the hunt, knowing the legs that the winner would have.

After the escape was neutralized, Van Aert picked up the pace in the majority, an action that Evenepoel used as a launch. The Quick Step Belgian attacked with Gall and Skjelmose at the wheel, leaving behind a group made up of Bilbao, Ayuso, Uijtdebroeks, Uran, Tejada and Kelderman.

There were a couple of kilometers left to climb and Gall launched himself followed by Trek’s, Remco could not keep up with them, accusing post-covid inactivity. The victory was in the two leaders and it was in the hands of the Trek man, with Gall second and Ayuso completing the podium.
