Its name may not tell you anything, but the Webb Ellis trophy (who would be the British inventor of modern rugby) should attract lovers of oval Sunday and Monday in Versailles (Yvelines). The solid gold object, which rewards the winner of the Rugby World Cup, makes a detour through the royal city a few months before the event organized in France from September 8 to October 28 next.

On Saturday, the local club of RC Versailles takes advantage of its charity tournament 7 of hearts to display the trophy to the general public at the Porchefontaine stadium, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The next day, this same trophy will be exhibited in the morning in front of the town hall, presented by Land Rover “Defender Trophy Car Tour”, partner of the competition.

“It’s a great opportunity to give a reminder that Versailles will be, at its level, the host city of this World Cup”, confides the mayor (DVD) François de Mazières. Indeed, the Wales team will establish its base camp in the royal city on the sidelines of the competition. The Welsh, semi-finalists of the world three times (1987, 2011 and 2019), will stay and train for 5 weeks (from September 3 to October 9) in the city-Prefecture.
