The alleys of Insep (Paris XII) are rather quiet on Sundays. In a room on the ground floor of building F, overheated on this June day, the atmosphere goes up a notch. France’s new breaking star, Sya Dembele, aka B-girl Syssy, begins her training session, followed by Marlone and Kimie Alvarez.
The latter are preparing for the next Breaking for Gold battle in Madrid, which allows them to score points for Olympic qualification. Sya, 15, and Kimie, 16, could join Insep next year and possibly join the minors’ building, with gymnasts and basketball players, traditionally among the youngest residents.

Gradually, the discipline is organized, and two coaches (against one this year) could be present on a daily basis. And Insep is rolling out the red carpet for these young people, since a project for an ephemeral structure is under discussion. It should be installed in September on the former field hockey ground, and specially dedicated to urban sports, since it is planned to add a skatepark and a 3 x 3 basketball court.
The structure could thus allow breaking to increase its capacity and specialists in skateboarding and 3 x 3 basketball to carry out more internships and their final phase of Olympic preparation in the Bois de Vincennes training center.
