An incisive preaching made by Pastor David Eldridge during an event of the Assembly of God in Brasilia on the biblical condemnation of homosexuality became the target of censorship by the Justice of the Federal District, which determined the removal of the video of the sermon from YouTube.

O pastor David Eldridge, norte-americano, was in Brazil in february this year preaching at the event of the União das Mocidades of the Assemblies of God of Brasília (UMADEB). On the occasion, he stated that the Holy Bible predicts the condemnation to hell for those who practice homosexuality:

“Every homosexual has a booking in hell, every lesbian has a booking in hell, every transgender has a booking in hell, every bisexual has a booking in hell, every drag queen and whores have reservations in hell,” he said.

The preaching also extended to other aspects of human sexuality, such as lust: “You, girl, when your skirt is short and tight when you leave the house, do you know what you are doing? You have a reservation there in hell!”, he preached.

LGBT entities filed a lawsuit asking for the removal of the video from YouTube. Judge Lívia Lourenço Gonçalves, from the 4th Civil Court of Taguatinga, granted the request, disregarding the fundamental rights of freedom of expression and religious manifestation, provided for in the Federal Constitution, according to information from Conjur.

“The dissemination of videos of the event containing alleged hate speech against a specific community, based on alleged religious interpretations that largely do not reflect the Christian spirit, could in theory encourage discriminatory and violent attitudes on the part of the faithful against members of the LGBT+ community, which is not accepted,” says an excerpt from the judge’s decision.

The preliminary decision, permeated with assumptions, indicates that the warning against sin – an essential part of Christian preaching – is offensive to minorities: “It cannot be accepted that, through the wide dissemination of videos, speeches that translate manifestations that degrade , inferiorize, subjugate, offend or lead to intolerance or discrimination and may be configured as a crime, which is why the request must be accepted”.
