Two people were killed and three others injured Thursday in a new shooting in Martinique, this time in the popular city of Dillon in Fort-de-France, said Friday the parquet floor of Fort-de-France. The investigation was entrusted to the criminal brigade of the judicial police of Fort-de-France.
These facts come four days after a man was killed, also in a shootout which had broken out on the sidelines of an evening organized in Rivière-Salée (south).
Shortly before 9:00 p.m. Thursday, numerous shots were exchanged in the middle of the main artery which separates the blocks of buildings from the Cité Dillon, a working-class district in the south of Fort-de-France. Two men were killed and three others injured while they were “in the wrong place at the wrong time”, according to firefighters interviewed by AFP.
One of the two victims was still in cardiac arrest, and the other in absolute emergency, when they were admitted to the hospital. They died overnight, police said. Questioned by RCI radio, the mother of one of the two victims indicated that her 28-year-old son had already been shot and wounded during the carnival festivities on February 20.
Six homicides in six weeks
Between November 2022 and May 2023, a gendarmerie squadron came as reinforcements to the island to stem the acts of violence. Since their departure, a month and a half ago, six homicides have been perpetrated.
With this shooting, 16 people have been killed in Martinique since the beginning of the year, including 11 by firearm. This represents four more deaths than last year, at the same time.

“We do not discover today that there are Glock (pistols) circulating, that there are Kalashnikovs circulating, and the weapons of war used clearly show that there is international traffic, in particular cocaine, ”said the elected official, who went to the scene of the shooting on Thursday evening.
Like the executive adviser of the territorial community Serge Letchimy a few weeks ago, the municipality of Fort-de-France is asking for more resources for the national police and the gendarmerie.
