David Fincher says what he finds most boring about making a movie

Renowned director David Fincher, who signed works like “Seven” and “Fight Club”, met with film students at the Tribeca Film Festival to talk about his creative process. Among the statements, Fincher revealed that the part he least likes in producing a film is: filming!

I love to rehearse. I love talking to people about our intent as a film, fighting over every word in the script, what it means, how it comes to life in other people’s mouths, the ideas that come out of that process. I love casting a movie, I love designing a movie. I love sitting down with the production designer, the director of photography, and talking about what we want to say by the look of the film, where we want to draw people’s attention, that kind of thing.

But, when the recordings begin in earnest, the director feels that “it is an unnecessary step”, emphasizing his dissatisfaction with this part of the process, and adds that, for him, “in an ideal world, I would love to do all this preparation work and call someone to take over the shoot and see it through to the end of the line… But unfortunately, you have to be there to complete the job.”
