The two qualifying sessions at the Sachsenring have had three clear protagonists: the wet track of the German layout that has caused numerous crashes, the pole position at Pecco Bagnaia and the repeated falls of Marc Márquez, who already has four drags, and from one of them he came out badly, with a sore leg.

Q1 did not start with the better conditions. The asphalt was wet, although it seemed that it was beginning to clear up to give the riders a rest, who were forced to go out with the rain tires. The earliest to enter the pit lane was Marc Márquez, and everyone was extremely cautious given the delicate state of the track.

The 93 wanted to do their homework from the beginning, mounting a Kalex chassis and another Honda on each of their two bikes. A single lap earned him to position himself first, one second behind the second… The advantage was important because the track was very difficult, with few dry lanes and a large part of the track wet. Until he risked too much and ended up in the ground again. And running to the box for the second moto with slicks.

The party from Cervera was spoiled with a minute to go. First it was Viñales and then Binder who beat their best time. The one who gave the final surprise was Brad Binder, setting an impressive 1:24.655 with a lot of confidence; insuperable. No one could beat the South African; Márquez finished 2nd closely to earn his way to Q2 at +1,026, which unseated Viñales (3rd at +1,588).

Already in Q2 the session did not take long to find references: Binder, Zarco and Bagnaia led the first minutes with the track with many dry lanes. And in the first bars Marc Márquez kissed the ground again; he suffered a ‘highside’ and seemed to hurt his leg left because he was limping out of the place. At least he had time to return to the box with the same motorcycle. Luca Marini suffered the same fate in the same curve and type of fall. Both could return to the track minutes later.

The head of classification did not find a leader until the last seconds. Bagnaia, Zarco, Bezzechi, Martín, Zarco, Miller, Marini… They all came fighting for the first place. Until Márquez and Zarco crashed and the Race Direction canceled the fastest laps by Bezzecchi and Martín for having done them with a yellow flag. And that benefited Bagnaia.

They left pole position on a platter for Bagnaia (1:21.409). His third consecutive ahead of Luca Marini (+0.078), Jack Miller (3rd at +0.083), Johann Zarco (4th at +0.356) and Bezzecchi closing the top 5 at +0.527. Those who were harmed by that yellow flag went to Bezzecchi and Martín, who finally qualified 5th and 6th, just ahead of Marc Márquez (+0.604) after four crashes between the two qualifying sessions.

Just behind Marc, his brother Álex (8th), preceding a combative Binder who was relegated to 9th place ahead of Aleix Espagaró, missing for a large part of the session.

The Sprint Race will be at 15:00 Spanish time.
