Sharon Eyal is among the big names in international dance scheduled for the 66th Festival dei Due Mondi. The Israeli choreographer and dancer arrives in Spoleto with her new creation ‘Into the Hairy’, staged in its national premiere from 30 June to 2 July. On the stage of the Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti dances his company LEV (heart in Hebrew), one of the most curious and original groups of the new Israeli generation, founded together with his partner Gai Behar, with whom he also signs this show. As with every Sharon Eyal show, the costumes are an integral part of the artistic creation, and in this case they are made by Maria Grazia Chiuri for Christian Dior Couture.
On the other hand, the collaboration with the electronic music musician and producer Koreless, one of the most influential musicians and producers of the new generation, is making its debut. In a mix of contemporary, ambient, garage or trance, Koreless’s music moves between dubstep and soul electronica with a highly recognizable identity which this year also sees the consecration at Sónar in Barcelona. Sharon Eyal trained with the Batsheva Dance Company and was the muse of the choreographer Ohad Naharin, whom the Spoleto public has already applauded in the formidable show Decadance in 2016, between 1990 and 2008 first as a dancer and then as an associate choreographer. The unique style of ‘Into the Hairy’ is what has always distinguished the disruptive duo Eyal & Behar.
Movement, music and space intersect, dance breaks out of its conventional canons, classical merges with underground club culture and contemporary dance is pushed far beyond its borders. A style that goes to the heart of every dancer’s movement. “I don’t want to see the choreography, I want to see the magic – explains Sharon Eyal – I want to feel and I want people to feel what I intend to give them. As far as my mental form, physical commitment and dance technique are concerned, they are all one. When you are exhausted, when your muscles are on fire – he adds – the emotion rises to the surface and it becomes impossible to pretend or construct a speech. You can only be in the present”.
