BEIJING: With the Beijing Winter Olympics set to take place in February, corona exposure in China is on the rise.
The Winter Olympics are set to take place in the Chinese capital, Beijing, from February 4 to 20. While preparations for this are in full swing, the number of corona infections there has been increasing over the past few days.
In China, 206 new cases of corona have been confirmed in the last 24 hours. Of the newly confirmed cases, 48 were foreigners and 158 were non-foreigners.
The number of corona victims in China so far has risen to 1,00,077 due to these new infections. While there have been no new deaths from corona damage, the number of corona deaths there so far stands at 4,636. In the last 24 hours, 76 people have recovered from corona damage and returned home.
With just a month or two to go before the start of the Beijing Winter Olympics, the question arises as to whether the Games will go ahead as planned, due to the rapidly rising corona there. Meanwhile, countries including the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia have announced their diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics, accusing China of human rights abuses.
