Born in 2001 to promote the creation of spots in Basque, the Euspot contest has established itself as a benchmark in the field of creation and advertising in Basque. Sponsored by the Basque Government and under the impetus of the Euskadi 2030 Science, Technology and Innovation Plan (PCTI 2030), this year the 12th edition of Euspot was held on the theme I WANT TO WORK IN SCIENCE AND RESEARCH!

The challenge consisted of creating a 30-second ad to encourage scientific and technical vocations, arouse interest and passion for science and technology in youth, and actively participate in the transformation of the world. It has been intended to bring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) contents closer to youth, as well as to increase the level of interest and knowledge of these skills and professions to facilitate their professional development and their participation in the construction of the society of the future. The aim has been to encourage creativity and a passion for learning, encouraging scientific thinking.

The PCTI 2030 represents the Basque Country’s strategic commitment to Research and Innovation. His vision is to place the Basque Country among the most advanced European regions in innovation in 2030 to improve the standard of living and the quality of employment. It is a shared strategy between public institutions, companies, universities, research centers, technology centers and socioeconomic agents.

A pioneer in the integration of the Basque language, creativity and advertising, since its creation in 2001 Euspot has become a benchmark for promoting advertising in Basque. It is a well-established contest in which, adding up all the previous editions, some 700 spots had been received.

In this 2023 edition, participation in Euspot has been historic. A total of 149 works have been presented, 54 spots more than last year. Among the works presented, 39 have been made by people over 18 years of age and 110 spots by people under 18 years of age.

The spots were created in different places in the Basque Country: Ataun, Ordizia, Beasain, Alegria-Dulantzi, Gasteiz, Legazpi, Arrasate, Donostia, Bilbao, Irua, Azpeitia, Zestoa, Hernani, Lazkao, Legutio, Bergara, Orio, Zarautz, Elorrio, Oiartzun, Berriz, Idiazabal, Bermeo, Sopela, Ajangiz, Escoriatza, Aretxabaleta, Ondarru, Zamudio, Berriatua, Derio…

Awards have been given in 6 categories, with more than 1,700 votes received for the public award

The Arkupe de Aretxabaleta cultural center hosted the Euspot 2023 awards ceremony this Thursday, June 15, in an act presented by the magician Tor and enlivened by his magic show. Six prizes have been awarded in as many categories, with more than 3,000 euros distributed among all of them.

Best spot, delivered by the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation of the Basque Government (1,000 euros). Winners: Gorka Santos Alvarez and Haizea Bedialauneta Garcia, from Elorrio.
public award with more than 1,700 votes received and delivered by the mayor of Aretxabaleta (500 euros). Winner: Scar Golpe Manuel, from Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Youth Award for under 18s, delivered by the director of the Bai Euskara Association (500 euros). Winners: Roco and Eliana Sanchez, Maialen Mendez, Naroa Garmendia, Nagore Arteaga and Eneko Arozena, from Donostia-San Sebastian.
best musical synchronization, delivered by the director of Arteman Kommunikación (300 euros). Winners: Mikel Larrion and Yurena Carrero, de Bergara and Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Additional prizes:

Best spot for Mondragon Unibertsitatea students, given by the director of the communication campus (500 euros). Winners: Unai Cantabrana, Aner Olaizola and Danel Ezpeleta, from Arrasate.
Best ad for Arizmendi students, delivered by its communication director (250 euros). Winners: Patricia Nicola Petrar and Yashira Rodriguez Fernandez, from Eskoriatza.

In addition to the previous awards, the Euspot organization has organized training sessions on creativity for more than 500 students, with the aim of promoting the pool of spot authors. The objective of these sessions has been to foster the creative and advertising instinct of young people and encourage them to participate in the contest. In recent years, more than 4,000 students have received Euspot training sessions in different educational centers in the Basque Country.
