“Why do some Jews spit on Gentiles?” This is the deliberately provocative title of a symposium held last Friday in the Old City of Jerusalem. In the audience there is a whole panoply of Christian religious in uniform: bishops, priests, monks and nuns. Many of them have already undergone this treatment, but they did not come to talk about it. On the platform, speeches are made in Hebrew by Jewish Israelis: academics who wish to alert Jewish public opinion to this phenomenon.
