Météo-France places fifteen departments on orange vigilance for storms

After a weekend disrupted by thunderstorms in places, fifteen departments from the south-west to the north-east of France are classified, Monday, June 19, in orange vigilance. Violent thunderstorms and gusts of wind of more than 100 kilometers per hour are expected locally, announced Météo-France in its latest bulletin.

The departments of Aube, Charente, Charente-Maritime, Cher, Côte-d’Or, Indre, Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher are concerned. , Loiret, Marne, Haute-Marne, Nièvre, Deux-Sèvres, Vienne and Yonne. The departments bordering the latter are placed in yellow vigilance, and can experience locally strong thunderstorms.

Risk of heavy hailstorms

“Storms are currently moving over the country from the southwest to the northeast. The most violent storms are expected this afternoon on an axis going from Poitou-Charentes to Champagne”warns the forecaster. “Severely stormy summer situation requiring particular vigilance insofar as there is a risk of violent phenomena, in particular heavy accumulations of rain in a short time, falling hail, associated with strong electrical activity, even strong gusts of wind that can locally exceed 100 kilometers per hour in gusts”continues Météo-France.

These storms are accompanied by “heavy rain, a risk of heavy hail or large hail, strong gusts of wind” et “significant electrical activity”according to the bulletin, which states that “the storms evacuate towards the Ardennes and Lorraine in the evening or during the night from Monday to Tuesday, gradually losing their virulence”.

On the Mediterranean rim and Corsica, the weather will remain dry, with beautiful sunny periods. Elsewhere, the sky will be changing with less heavy showers than the day before. The autan wind will be noticeable in the Toulouse South, as well as the southerly wind in the Rhône valley.

As for temperatures, the minimums will go from 12 to 18 degrees in general, up to 19 to 22 degrees in the South-East and in Corsica. In the afternoon, the maximum will reach 21 to 24 degrees in the northwest quarter of the country, 25 to 30 elsewhere, and up to 31 or 33 degrees in the Rhône valley, in Franche-Comté, in Alsace. and in Corsica.
