The Spanish hotel industry continues with its recovery after being one of the sectors most affected by the coronavirus crisis and expects to exceed the figures registered before the pandemic in 2023. “The hospitality industry is doing wonderfully and this year we believe that we are going to exceed the figures of 2019, we are with a total record of jobs”, has advanced the president of Hospitality of Spain, José Luis Yzuel, during the presentation of the Socioeconomic Report of the sector of beer, where he recalled that the hospitality industry billed 32% more than in 2021, a figure still far from before the pandemic. Specifically, Yzuel has recognized that the hospitality sector is having a hard time incorporating waiters. “We are not attractive. The hospitality industry has recovered employment, with record figures and we are going to continue growing even if we have difficulties, “he said.

The president of the hotel employers recalled that beer is the most consumed cold drink in the hotel industry, since it accounts for between 25% and 40% of the billing of bars, where 94% of consumption occurs in a social context , that is, accompanied by friends, family, partner or coworkers. “It is the sector that sells the most happiness, something that also has to do with beer,” according to him, he has assured.

On the other hand, Yzuel has taken the opportunity to demand that there be “regulatory certainty” and “tax relief” to encourage activity in the sector and increase the economic growth of the hospitality industry through investments. «We must place Spain among the safest tourist destinations, differentiate our country brand throughout the world and increase the deductibility of restaurant tickets from 11 euros to 22 euros per day, as a measure to boost consumption. My wish is that all our ills can be fixed with a good beer,” she concluded.

Spain has confirmed itself as the second largest beer producer in Europe and ninth worldwide, according to data from the sector report. The organization, which had already advanced this data last March, has detailed that Spanish breweries produced a total of 41.14 million hectoliters in 2022, 7.85% more than the previous year. With this level of production, the country took second place in Europe, ahead of Poland (38.30 million hectoliters) and only surpassed by Germany (87.83 million hectoliters).

The world ranking is led by China, with 359.74 million hectoliters, and just ahead of Spain, in position number eight, is Vietnam, with 42 million hectoliters, an amount that is achievable for the Spanish sector, he indicated. the general director of Cerveceros de España, Jacobo Olalla, during the launch of the report.
