The third edition of the European Games, which takes place from June 21 to July 2 in Poland, will be an opportunity for many French athletes to validate their ticket for the 2024 Olympic Games, or to approach it by scoring precious points in the optics of the classification with the Olympic qualification.

If all the athletes present at the third edition of the European Games will dream of winning gold, for some, a medal could have an even sweeter taste.

Indeed, in certain disciplines, this competition will allow them to qualify for Paris 2024. And validating their ticket for the next Summer Games more than a year before the deadline remains an invaluable asset for an athlete. Suffice to say that there will be a flavor of the Olympic Games before the hour in Poland.

7,000 athletes from 48 countries

For example, a place in the final, and sometimes even in the semi-final, could allow French boxers to qualify for the Olympic Games at home. With gold around their necks, in modern pentathlon, the tricolor clan, with Élodie Clouvel, Marie Oteiza, Valentin Belaud and Valentin Prades, will obtain the precious sesame for Paris 2024.

If everything will not be decided in Poland for badminton, fencing, taekwondo or even mountain biking, precious points will be at stake with a view to the classification for the Olympic qualification.

In total, 29 sports – including 19 Olympic disciplines – will be represented by 7,000 athletes from 48 countries. This multi-sport competition, which takes place every four years, is organized by the European Olympic Committees, an organization itself made up of fifty National Olympic Committees.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Henryk Reyman Municipal Stadium in Krakow on June 21. European champion 2022 with the French 3×3 team, Marie Mané has been designated to be the flag bearer of the blue-white-red delegation. She will be accompanied by Jean-Charles Valladont, gold medalist at the European Games in 2019, who practices archery. Three hundred and fifteen French athletes will compete in these European Games.
