The board of directors of Endesa has agreed to the appointment, by cooptation, like new new external proprietary director of Flavio Cattaneo, current CEO of Enel, the largest shareholder of the Spanish energy company, informed the company to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).

Cattaneo, who will also be vice president of the Spanish electricity company, will fill the vacancy on Endesa’s governing body produced by the resignation of Francesco Starace, his predecessor as Enel’s top executive.

On May 12, Cattaneo was appointed as the new CEO of Enel, within the relays that were carried out by the Government of Giorgia Meloni, since the Italian State controls 23.6% of the capital, in the transalpine energy company, despite the opposition of some funds.

Along with Cattaneo, Paolo Scaroni, former CEO of Enel and Eni, Chairman of the Enel group, was appointed, and Johanna Arbib, Mario Corsi, Dario Frigerio, Fiammetta Salmoni were chosen as independent directors of the Italian company, along with Scaroni himself. , Alessandra Stabilini and Alessandro Zehentner.

For his part, Cattaneo, 59 years old and until now executive vice president of the railway operator Italo, succeeded Francesco Starace at the head of Enel, who was leaving the position after having been its CEO since 2014.

Enel is the maximum shareholder of Endesa with a 70% stake in its capital, Therefore, it was already assumed that the changes in the leadership of the Italian group would also entail some changes in the Spanish energy company.
