“Failure to welcome and abandonment kills”. Several hundred “young people who have come to find refuge in France” occupy this Tuesday evening the Place du Palais Royal, in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, announces the association Utopia 56 on his social networks. The journalist Clément Lanot, present on the spot, filmed the installation of the tents in front of the Council of State.

“For 77 days, more than 700 young people who have come to find refuge in France have been surviving on the ground, without running water or electricity, in a disused school in the 16th arrondissement of Paris”, explains the association Utopia 56, which comes to the aid of foreigners in an irregular situation in France.

A good part of them therefore went to the Place du Palais Royal on Tuesday evening, for a peaceful action in front of the Council of State. The associations present with these asylum seekers ensure that they will stay on site “until decent accommodation solutions are offered to them”.

First tensions on the spot

Before this action, Utopia affirms that about thirty alerts on the conditions of reception of these young refugees have been transmitted to the authorities for approximately two months. “Neither the Government, nor the prefecture of Île-de-France, nor the town hall of Paris responded to the calls for help from these young people”, insists the association.

The first tensions took place on the Place du Palais Royal around 9 p.m. between the occupants of the square and the police. According to journalist Clément Lanot, the police force the refugees out of their tents.
