An MPLA delegation led by the secretary of the Political Bureau for International Relations and Vice-President of the Socialist International (IS), Manuel Augusto, participated in Niamey, Niger, in the Meeting of the Africa Committee of the Socialist International, ANGOP learned today, Monday -fair.
The Opening Ceremony, which took place on Friday (16), was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Niger, Ouhoumoudou Mahamadou, and by the President of the UNDR Party and Prime Minister of the Transitional Government of the Republic of Chad, Saleh Kebzabo.
Those present discussed, among other topics, the “Consolidation of Democracy to Strengthen States in Africa” and adopted the mechanisms for implementing the Dakar Declaration.
At the same meeting, Saleh Kebzabo was elected as the new president of the Africa Committee of the Socialist International, replacing the Malian Bokary Treta, of the RPM Party (Mali) and outgoing president of the said Committee.
The Dakar Declaration is a document in which the signatory countries undertake to promote an education that is truly capable of reaching all people on the planet, reaffirming education as a fundamental human right.
This responsibility will be best achieved through broad partnerships at the country level, supported by cooperation with regional and international agencies and institutions, participants said.
The delegation of the party in power in Angola was received, this Monday (19), in audience by the President of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, and by former President Mahamadou Issoufou.
The IS meeting, which ended Saturday (17), also had the participation of Benedicta Lasi, the first woman and African elected secretary general of the Socialist International, at the last Congress of the Organization held in Madrid, in November 2022.
The head of the Africa and Middle East Division of the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee, Bernardo Samuel Ngueve Catoto, was part of the MPLA delegation.
The Socialist International is the world’s largest platform that brings together socialist, social democratic, labor and progressive parties and has been chaired, since last November, by the Head of Government of the Kingdom of Spain, Pedro Sanchez. MR/AL
