The president of USA, Joe Bidenmatched its Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, to “dictators” this Tuesday, 20, during an event to raise funds for the Democratic Party in California. Biden said Xi was angered by an incident in February when a Chinese balloon – which Washington says was used for spying – flew over the United States before being shot down by US military jets. “The reason Xi Jinping was so upset when I shot down that balloon with two boxcars full of spy equipment is that he didn’t know it was there,” Biden said. “I am serious. That’s the great shame for dictators, when they don’t know what happened. That shouldn’t be going where it did… and he didn’t know it,” Biden continued of Xi. “When (the balloon) was knocked down, (Xi) was very embarrassed and denied that he was there.” Biden, who at 80 is running for re-election, also downplayed concerns about the Asian powerhouse, telling donors that “the China faces real economic difficulties”. The comments are likely to be strongly opposed by Beijing, which a few days earlier received a visit from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in an attempt to ease tensions between the two global powers.
