This Tuesday, June 20, 2023, in Ouagadougou, the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Jean Emmanuel Rimtaba Ouédraogo met with Burkinabè cinema actors for information concerning the “Cinema Village” project. This activity is intended to be a framework for information and exchange on the vision and implementation of the project.

With the aim of bringing innovations and developing the Burkinabè cinematographic industry, the ministry in charge of culture has initiated a project called ” Cinema village “. This project is led by the Technical Secretariat of the National Cinema and Audiovisual Center whose mission is to carry out reforms in order to provide the cinema and audiovisual sector with infrastructure and an operational and efficient management system.

The aim of the project ” Cinema village aims to revitalize the cinema and audiovisual sector through the construction of a cinematographic village. Further, it will act to carry out feasibility and architectural studies of the project, to build the “Cinema Village” according to the architectural study taking into account all the conveniences of a modern cinema complex. This will make it possible to increase film production, enhance the quality of cinematographic works and make Burkina Faso a benchmark for film production.

“At the end of the realization of this project, Burkina Faso has a modern structure which meets the aspirations of the actors of the cinema. This complex takes into account all the links in the value chain of the film industry. (…) All of these infrastructures will allow the birth of ideas, the blossoming of talents, the development and the finalization of cinematographic and audiovisual projects”, indicated Evariste Pooda, technical secretary of the National Center for Cinema, Audiovisual and Moving Image.

For his part, Jean Emmanuel Rimtaba Ouédraogo suggested that this meeting is intended to be a framework for information and exchange on the vision and implementation of the project. « Cinema village “. For him, this is an opportunity for players in the world of the seventh art to reflect on the reforms underway in connection with the development of the cinema and audiovisual sector.

During this activity, the minister invited the population to cultivate the spirit of popular shareholding in the cinematographic and audiovisual project for the development of the sector and the fight against poverty.

« The training of the future citizen, that is to say the Burkinabè of tomorrow, can only be what we want if we undertake to finance the production of films according to the content that we wish to show them. Therefore, the cinema, in addition to being a lever for economic and social development, happens to be a colorant of cultural identity; this same cultural identity which today finds itself tested and which constitutes a threat to our survival. (…) It is therefore up to all the sons and daughters of the country to work hand in hand for the economic, social and cultural development of our dear homeland. “, he said.
