While the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin presented this Wednesday in the Council of Ministers the decree of dissolution of the environmental collective Les Uprisings of the Earth, and that a wave of arrests of environmental activists took place Tuesday, Marine Tondelier accused the government of an attempt to criminalize the environmental movement which “seems obvious to him”.

The dissolution of the collective comes after the violence that occurred between the police and environmental activists during the demonstration against the Lyon Turin rail link, and those in Sainte-Soline (Deux-Sèvres), at the end of March, during a demonstration against a mega-basin. “Oversized means of repression, surveillance and, let’s say the word, intimidation, are put in place”, further lamented the national secretary of EELV.

Regarding the dissolution of the “Earth Uprisings”, she said she was waiting “to see their elements to justify this dissolution” and “what justifies this attack on freedom of association and assembly”. “Legally, we will follow this carefully”, she warned, before promising to oppose it “by all legal means”.
Marine Tondelier also regretted “the deleterious climate” against environmental activists. “When Gérald Darmanin speaks of eco-terrorism or agri-sabotage, the consequence on the ground is that there is an upsurge in attacks against environmental activists,” she continued. She claimed to be “no longer in confidence” with the Minister of the Interior, who puts “a target in the back” to his political opponents. “When farmers come to attack me in Lot-et-Garonne or Aude, where do you think it comes from? she asked.

For the deputy Générations Benjamin Lucas, the dissolution of the Uprisings of the Earth presents the “ingredients of an authoritarian shift in a regime in which opposition is criminalized”, he criticized on RFI.
