Why does Spain need to have its own geopolitical vision?.- Ignacio Fuente Cobo
Geopolitics has traditionally served to explain the international behavior of a State and define its objectives in security policy through geographical variables. Until very recently, geopolitics aroused little interest in Spain and the studies carried out in this regard were practically non-existent. With a favorable international context and a periphery of partner, allied or simply non-hostile countries, belonging to powerful security organizations such as NATO —and to a lesser extent the EU— allowed Spain to ignore geopolitical concerns, given that these were limited and your simple solution. However, as it has rapidly opened up to globalization, Spain has begun to understand the risks of disinterest in international issues in an increasingly geopolitical global system.
