The institution explained that the financing instruments that “IMM currently has are two investment loans and two non-reimbursable technical cooperation projects with an exclusive focus on sanitation, urban drainage, and solid waste.”

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) assured this Wednesday that “it is not currently managing reimbursable or non-reimbursable resources (technical cooperation) with the Municipality of Montevideo (IMM) in the framework of the water emergency.”

In a letter to which Telemundo agreed, addressed to the Ministry of Economy and dated this Wednesday, the IDB explained that the financing instruments that “IMM currently has are two investment loans and two non-reimbursable technical cooperation exclusive in sanitation, urban drainage and solid waste”.

“These loans and technical cooperation were managed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in its role as governor of the IDB. We remain committed to our counterparts and available to help Uruguay through this water crisis,” the institution said in the letter.

Likewise, the IDB indicated that “it is in talks with personnel from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, to offer all the necessary help for the emergency.”

The Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, had indicated to Telemundo this Wednesday that he had spoken with the executive director on behalf of Uruguay of the IDB in Washington and confirmed that there was “no loan approved or under discussion with the Municipality of Montevideo” for the water crisis.

For her part, the mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, said she was “embarrassed” and accused the government of “misrepresenting” reality in the face of the controversy over the “donation” of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to the mayor’s office to address the crisis that the national government did not authorize.
