The Municipal Transport Company (EMT) is going to activate a special bus service to connect the Atocha and Valdecarros stations, during the works that are going to be carried out in summer, on a section of Line 1 of Madrid’s Underground. This substitute fleet of buses is expected to be operational until September, the month in which the remodeling work on the underground will be completed.

The special EMT service will have as its starting point, at its Atocha headwaters, stop no. 50.011 on Avenida Ciudad de Barcelona, next to the interchange. The route includes a total of 12 intermediate stops until reaching the Valdecarros headwaters (stop no. 3,965), which correspond to the number of stations and their location on that section of line 1. The section of metro affected by the works is about 22 kilometers long.

These are the stops that make up the itinerary of this special service in both directions: Atocha, Menéndez Pelayo, Pacífico, Puente de Vallecas, Nueva Numancia, Portazgo, Buenos Aires, Alto del Arenal, Miguel Hernández, Sierra de Guadalupe, Villa de Vallecas, La Gavia, Las Suertes and Valdecarros. The route has stops that coincide with other regular EMT lines and a newly created stop (no. 5,949) has also been set up on Jesús del Pino street and two more stops (nos. 5,953 and 5,954) on Real de Arganda street. This special service will not stop next to the Congosto metro station, since the EMT line 54 buses are going to reinforce their service in the face of a foreseeable greater demand for passengers during the works.

To provide this special service, the EMT has provided a maximum of 58 standard buses during the busiest hours of travelers on weekdays and up to 33 vehicles for weekends and holidays. The first departures in the morning are scheduled at 6:06 a.m. from the headwaters of Atocha and at 6:05 a.m. from Valdecarros every day of the week. The last departures are scheduled at 2:00 a.m. from Atocha and at 1:33 a.m. from Valdecarros. The frequency of the special buses will be between one and four minutes on weekdays. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, the scheduled frequency goes from three to seven minutes, depending on the time slot.

Users of this special service between Atocha and Valdecarros have a connection point with the Madrid Metro network (L6) at the Pacífico stop and another point with the Cercanías network at the Sierra de Guadalupe stop. In addition, users of the districts of Puente de Vallecas and Villa de Vallecas have other regular EMT lines at their disposal for travel along the affected route and its surroundings. They are 10, 24, 37, 54, 57, 58, 103, 136, 141, 142, 143, 145 and 310.

Access to this special service will be free, but all travelers will have to validate their ticket on board these buses, either TTP or multi-trip ticket, which will not discount the trip when validating. If you do not have a ticket, the user must ask the driver for a single ticket with zero cost.
