what’s the story?
MG, the pioneer of electric cars in Israel, has started marketing a new model that puts it in a new category in which it has not been before. The model that arrives later than the original plan is called Marvel R, and unlike previous MG models, it is aimed at the leaders of the category: Hyundai Ioniq 5, Tesla Model Y and Skoda Aniac.
What’s new?
The model was introduced in China in 2018 as the Marvel X under the Roewe brand (what’s left of the British Rover brand). The European version was introduced in 2021 as the Marvel R of the MG brand, and it is the one that is coming to Israel now. The dimensions are similar to competitors with a length of 467 cm, a width of 192 cm, a height of 162 cm and a wheelbase of 280.4 cm. The rear trunk is modest compared to competitors (357 liters), but the rear-wheel drive version also has a large front trunk (150 liters).
There are two drive systems in a less typical arrangement of two rear engines and also a type of 2-speed gearbox. The rear-wheel drive version has two engines (108 and 72 hp) for a total power of 180 hp. The dual drive version adds a front engine (108 hp) to create a combined power of 288 hp and a jump to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
Both versions have the same battery with a capacity of 70 kWh, which enables a driving range of 402 km for rear-wheel drive and 370 km for double. Fast charging is slow compared to what is common in modern streetcars (93 kW) with filling to 80% in about 40 minutes.

What about accessories?
The rear-wheel drive version is offered in the ‘Lekshari’ trim level and is equipped with a particularly huge 19.4″ screen with the multimedia taking up 14″ and the climate control permit, projected indicators (“12.3″), a panoramic roof window, electric operation for the front seats (memories for the driver’s seat), ventilated and heated front seats, Split climate control, surround cameras, smart key, electric operation for the back door, LED lighting, 19” rims and more.
The all-wheel drive version is offered in the ‘Performance’ trim level, and adds an upgraded BOSE audio system.
The safety equipment is the same in both versions and includes autonomous braking, lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, active blind spot monitoring (prevents entry into an unoccupied lane), warning of the presence of vehicles when opening a door, and more. The EuroNcap organization tested the model in 2021 and awarded it 4 safety stars.

What is the price?
The rear-wheel drive version will be sold for NIS 206,000 and the double-wheel drive version for NIS 219,000. The warranty on the vehicle is for 5 years and the warranty for the battery is 8 years and up to 150,000 km.
During the launch period, a benefits package will be offered that includes a discount of approximately NIS 6,000 and 3 treatments or a financing benefit including a charging station or a trade-in without a station.
