Venus de Valdivia Health Center trains pregnant and lactating women in prenatal education – Ministry of Public Health

Pregnant and post-pregnant women in the province of Santa Elena receive prenatal education services at the Venus de Valdivia Health Center in La Libertad. The appointment addresses topics of interest such as changes during pregnancy, the importance of breastfeeding, among others.

Prenatal education aims to capture women from their early stages of pregnancy. During six work sessions, future mothers learn how to manage their cycle without disorders and above all in a healthy way; In addition, identify the warning signs that can generate risk or even preeclampsia.

Post pregnancy preparation is also part of this education system. Health personnel promote breathing and relaxation exercises, preparation and restoration of the pelvic floor. An average of 200 pregnant women attend these activities, and another 150 lactating women.

Isabel Jiménez, an obstetrician at the Venus de Valdivia Health Center, highlights that this type of pre- and postpartum induction contributes to the emotional state of patients. “Mothers-to-be will feel safe before giving birth. In the lactation stage they will know that self-love between mother and child, ”she added.

The specialist also added that the work with lactating mothers includes workshops on healthy lifestyles and nutrition to produce breast milk.

Mishell Tumbaco is 27 years old and is pregnant for the third time. She commented that with the workshops she learns about the care she must maintain during pregnancy. “I feel very happy with this service and with the professionals who treat me.”

In the establishments of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) with the delivery of the Comprehensive Health Book (LIS) the monitoring of care and controls by health personnel, families and caregivers is facilitated. The document contains recommendations for a healthy pregnancy, iron and folic acid supplementation, delivery and transportation planning, danger signs during pregnancy, and infant feeding.
