Tolkien’s letter comparing himself to a hobbit sold at auction for $20,500

At auction in New York, a letter from the British writer and philologist John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, in which he compared himself to a hobbit, was sold for almost $ 20.5 thousand. The letter was sent to a fan in 1955 and describes the difficulties that the author encountered when writing his masterpiece The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien noted that he would like to live in a deserted place, but cannot claim to be considered one of the fictional characters. Three more Tolkien letters addressed to the same fan were also sold at the auction, for a total of more than $48 thousand. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien is the author of cult adventure novels such as The Hobbit, or There and Back Again and takes place in a fictional world called Middle-earth.
