This Sunday, June 25, Line D will carry out a limited service between Congreso de Tucumán and Pueyrredón from 8 a.m. to 12 noon due to the works that are being carried out at the Central Obelisk. These are works related to the electrical installation of the future combination corridor that will improve accessibility and circulation.

In this sense, it seeks to improve accessibility, circulation and evacuation in one of the most congested points of the network, the space where lines B, C and D combine, where some 300,000 people pass daily.

These works are part of the Line D Modernization Plan, which is promoted by means of a loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB). The first two stages of the work have been completed and progress is being made with the third, which includes:

● New access on Sarmiento street, between Suipacha and Esmeralda, which, since its inauguration, expanded the combination and evacuation spaces.
● New corridor to transfer from Line D to Lines B and C.
● Incorporation of new fixed stairs, escalators and lifts to improve accessibility.

Benefits:
● It will solve the congestion of users on the platforms.
● It will make the 9 de Julio and Diagonal Norte stations 100% accessible.
● It will facilitate the access and the combination between the lines.
● Evacuation in case of emergency will be improved.

The third stage is currently being developed, which includes the construction of a corridor parallel to the north platform of the 9 de Julio station (direction to the Cathedral) to carry out the transfer between lines B and C. In addition, the incorporation of an elevator that links the sidewalk and the platform to Congreso de Tucumán on Line D, the expansion of the platform area on Diagonal Norte and auxiliary and ventilation rooms for all the stations.

The first stage consisted of the construction of a reinforced concrete tunnel under Sarmiento Street, between Suipacha and Esmeralda, and its junctions with the existing structure. The connection works include fixed stairs, space for an elevator and demolition tasks, underpinning, reconstruction of corridor walls and existing eardrums.

In the second stage, a new access was built on Sarmiento street, towards the 9 de Julio platform towards the Cathedral – the most critical, since it receives the line’s own passengers, plus those who make the CD/DC combination, BD/DB and BC/CB-. Two elevators were also added that connect with the Diagonal Norte station to Constitución and Retiro, an elevator that connects with the sidewalk and gave full accessibility to Diagonal Norte and partial accessibility to 9 de Julio in the direction of the Cathedral; and 4 escalators that give a total of nine teams in the entire node.
