“The voice of Athens is heard thundering today in every corner of our homeland. It remains to be heard in Sunday’s polls with the ND the big winner. Only then will we cut the thread of this two-month pre-election marathon with a result that will give a strong ND government”, Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized in his first references to the central pre-election gathering of the ND at the Syntagma.
Mr. Mitsotakis recalled the gatherings at the Syntagma of the founder of the ND and Konstantinos Mitsotakis. “Your participation tonight is a closing circle. The square is not divided into upper and lower. It is one, free and democratic,” he underlined.
The president of the ND said that “we are in the final stretch with enthusiasm as an ally and complacency as an enemy”.
Mr. Mitsotakis noted that political responsibility will lead to national stability. “With the mature choice of every Greek woman and every Greek man who seeks security and priority for himself and his children. The bar of expectations is high. I ask you all to make a bet and overcome him, to achieve even better rates in Lekanopedio”, he continued, while making a special reference to western Attica, which became blue for the first time. “All of Greece is blue and will remain blue after Sunday’s ballot”, he underlined and said that “this faction represents all strata and all ages”.
The ND president referred to specific actions of the policy he implemented for the benefit of young people, freelancers, and farmers. “It is no coincidence that the whole country dresses in blue. Thus revealing the deeply popular character of our party. Citizens turned their backs on blackness, on division, and rewarded a government consistent in word and deed and honest about its failures. On May 21st we won together, on June 25th we vote to rule together united. All the conquests we achieved must be consolidated and continued,” he added.
Better wages, quality free healthcare, a welfare state, a strong Greece are our goals
Kyriakos Mitsotakis, speaking at the central pre-election gathering of the ND at the Syntagma, emphasized that the citizens know how many crises the government has faced and the support it has given to society and the economy. “Protecting our national defense as never before. All this would not have been achieved without the unbreakable bond of trust. The consistency of words and actions. Confidence that also surrounds the program of our second term”, he continued and referred to 4 main objectives.
First, the best salaries for everyone with the average salary reaching 1500 euros and the basic salary 950 euros, from the beginning of 2024 we will have the new uniform salary in the public sector, while – he said – pension increases and tax reductions will continue where, among other things, the pretense fee will be gradually abolished.
The second goal, he said, is good quality public and free health. Among other things, he spoke about the upgrading of emergency cases, referred to the recruitment of 10,000 new additional doctors and nurses and clarified that 1000 of them will be in the emergency department. He added that the free preventive examinations will continue.
The third goal he mentioned is an efficient, fair and socially sensitive state. “A more efficient, fairer state that overcomes the pathologies of the past that hurt us. Everyone will be evaluated and the good ones will be rewarded. And we will continue the revolution of the digital state”, he underlined.
Fourth goal is strong Greece. “The fence on the Evros will be completed and Greece will continue to guard our borders. And the country’s armament programs will continue and be completed,” he said.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis mentioned that the whole of Greece is turning into a big construction site and talked about the projects that are progressing in Attica, while he said that he will place special emphasis on public transport.
“Our opponents are not the other parties, they are the problems. SYRIZA takes its place in a yesterday. The citizens sent the message to the ballot box and will send it again the day after tomorrow. The main message is one. In uncertain times the country needs a government that will not depend on fragile majorities. The greater the trust of the citizens, the heavier I feel my personal responsibility”, he stressed.
He added that many extreme voices in Parliament might cause a cacophony. “It is the very history of Athens that responds to the newly minted political merchants of religion and homeland. Enough with the Demeque believers and Demeque patriots,” he said.
Mr. Mitsotakis said that on Sunday we all have the opportunity to unite in one river and that ND is the only one capable of running with the baton of the future.
“The responsibility is now in your hands. The day after tomorrow there will be no blank check in the envelope. There will be a passport for advance with a popular stamp. That’s why I invite you for one day to bring an electoral fever, hit forty and put in our percentages, so that the steering wheel of the country leads it to the heart of Europe. Today we are sending the message of victory, we must carry it everywhere. In a country where blue will mean the certainty of hope. It is the greatest honor to be the prime minister of the country, I ask you for the strength to continue with my feet on the ground and my eyes up”, he said closing his speech.
