The Bulgarian Farmers’ Union announced that they will represent their country’s agriculture before the largest agrarian organization in the EU

Bulgaria is invited to become a full member of the largest organization of agricultural producers in the EU – “Kopa Kojeka”. The Bulgarian Farmers’ Union (BFS) I will represent the interests of native farmers as a member of the institution. In this way, our country will now have a say in the “Kopa Kojeka” after a struggle of more than 15 years. Until now, only Bulgaria and Romania were not members.

I remind you that one of the main goals of the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber was also to become a member of the largest agricultural organization in the EU. Until now, our Kopa Kodzeka membership has been stuck because of the large membership fee.

The president of “Kodzeka” Ramon Armengol and the general secretary Pekka Pessone welcomed in Brussels today the leadership of the BFS in the person of the chairman Georgi Stoyanov, the vice-chairman Preslav Borisov and Nikolay Vyusten, a member of the BFS. Tomorrow will be the presentation to the other organization – “Kopa”, as both work united under one structure – “Kopa – Kodzeka”.

“This is a great success for Bulgaria and we are proud to protect our agricultural producers in the EU,” commented Georgi Stoyanov, chairman of the BFS. According to him, this will lead to greater awareness of the problems of native farmers in Brussels. “Ever since the establishment of the Bulgarian Farmers’ Union, we have had the task of putting the problems of the agricultural sector in our country at the European level. Guided by the unification of all those involved in it, we believe that this is the right path,” said Georgi Stoyanov.

Kopa-Kodzeka is the largest and most influential European organization of farmers and their cooperatives in the EU. It represents the interests of its members in Brussels, with the highest representation in the agricultural sector in Europe. It includes over 28 million farmers and their families, as well as about 38,000 cooperatives. At the moment, members of “Kopa-Kodžeka” are Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

The Bulgarian Farmers’ Union is a nationally represented non-profit association, and its members already number hundreds of representatives from all segments of agriculture and the processing industry. Some of the ideas, tasks and challenges that have been laid down in the structuring of the organization are related to improving the activity and competitiveness of farmers, producers, processors and traders, precise management of agriculture, forestry and fish farms, conducting an active dialogue with state authorities . In just over a year, the Bulgarian Farmers’ Union managed to establish structures in Sofia, Varna, Stara Zagora, Smolyan, Pazardzhik, Haskovo, Kardjali, Vratsa, Borino and Chelopech. Active work is also being done in Northern Bulgaria, and the goal of the organization is to have a representative in every regional city by the end of the year.
