The Peruvian government announced this Friday that President Dina Boluarte will travel to the US in November to “receive the commission” of the rotating presidency of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC, for its acronym in English) during 2024.
“We will receive [el encargo] of the United States at the leaders’ summit to be held in San Francisco in November of this year and, of course, President Boluarte will personally pick up this order and bring it to Peru in an impeccable organization that the government is committed to doing next 2024″, indicated the president of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola.
Boluarte already participated in the APEC meeting last November in Thailand, which she attended as vice president of the then leftist president Pedro Castillo, whom she temporarily replaced in December after he was dismissed and imprisoned for dissolving Congress and decreeing a state of exception.
The APEC Forum is an intergovernmental organization made up of 21 countries from the Asia-Pacific region, including powers such as the US, China and Japan. The Latin American members are, in addition to Peru, Mexico and Chile.
It is the largest economic cooperation forum that aims to promote sustainable development and regional integration.
The interim president announced in May that Cusco will host the APEC summit.
