American ultra-trailer Courtney Dauwalter won the Western States 100 on Sunday, a course of nearly 170 km across the American West, in a record time of 15 hours, 29 minutes and 35 seconds, finishing 6th men and women confused. The ultra-long distance superstar smashed the previous women’s record by an hour and 18 seconds, adding to her already-provided record a 2nd title after 2018 in this race, one of four ultra-trail landmarks with the Hardrock (2022), the Diagonale des Fous (2022) and the Ultra-trail du Mont Blanc (2019 and 20121).

“Probably one of the best female performances ever seen in Ultra-trail”, commented on Twitter another legend of the discipline, the Catalan Kilian Jornet, winner of the event in 2011. At 38, Dauwalter still asserts himself a little more with this victory as a true phenomenon of endurance racing. She finished 4th, a breath away from the men’s podium, during the grueling Diagonale des Fous in 2022. British rider Tom Evans won the men’s race in 14 hours and 40 minutes.
