According to the Unified Health System (SUS), the vaccination rate for people with diabetes has dropped by 18% in the last decade, which can cause various damages to health, such as increasing the risk of chronic diseases and compilations by infectious diseases. The number of people affected increased dramatically during the covid-19 pandemic.

To improve the situation, the Voices of Advocacy Coalition carried out a campaign called “With the Vaccine, I Take Care of My Health and the Health of the Whole Society”, a movement to sensitize and raise awareness among those who have diabetes. more than 18 million people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes in the country.

“We need to engage society to get vaccinated, sensitize the Ministry of Health to make a more strategic communication plan to reach the population with diabetes and train professionals to talk about vaccination in consultations”, says the coordinator for diabetes and obesity, Vanessa Pirolo. The issue was still discussed by the health committee of the Chamber of Deputies.

“We know that uncontrolled glycemia alters multiple immunological mechanisms, contributing to a greater risk of infections and for them to evolve in a more serious way”explains infectologist Monica Levi.

It has been demonstrated that the persistence of vaccination is essential, because if the body is not protected, there is the possibility of contamination by a virus, since immunity becomes increasingly low over time.
