Thiruvananthapuram: Widespread protest on social media against the decision to appoint singer MG Sreekumar as the chairman of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy. Sreekumar, along with CPM supporters, came out against the move to head Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy. Sreekumar has been criticized by Left supporters for being a BJP supporter and campaigning for the BJP. Criticism is mounting on social media that some have the privilege of simultaneously calling for Hindutva fascism and, at the same time, being a leftist comrade.
The CPM has decided to appoint director Ranjith as chairman of Chalachithra Academy and singer MG Sreekumar as chairman of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy. Actress KPAC Lalitha is currently the Chairman of Sangeetha Nataka Academy. Soon after the news of this came out, there was a lot of criticism against Sreekumar and the party’s decision. In the 2016 assembly elections, MG won the Kazhakoottam constituency. Sreekumar’s campaign for the BJP has been criticized by Left supporters. News of MG Sreekumar preaching that the BJP should rule the state has also been circulating on social media. They want the appointment of MG Sreekumar, a Sangh Parivar fellow traveler, to head the Sangeetha Nataka Academy.
Congress leaders, including VT Balram, mocked the CPM over the appointment of Sangeetha Nataka Academy chairman. Kamal, who was the then chairman of the film academy, recommended appointing CPM workers as backdoor employees through the back door, saying it was to maintain the leftist nature of the academy. Despite all the illegality and wrongdoing, no cultural figure in Kerala, who believes that the “Left character” needs to be strengthened, was willing to oppose the corrupt appointments, even in the slightest. Balram scoffed that it was not only Pinarayi Vijayan and co. VT Balram also asks if this is the “left” you are all about.

Director Geo Baby and former MSF National Vice President Fatima Tehlia have also come under fire. Geo Baby wrote on Facebook that he was getting a playwright after such an intense search. “Sangh co-traveler MG Sreekumar will be the chairman of the Sangeetha Nataka Akademi of the Left government,” Fatima Tahliya wrote on her Facebook page.
