A meeting between Celac Science and Technology ministers begins in Venezuela

Caracas, June 26 (EFE).- Ministers and senior representatives of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) in the areas of science, technology and innovation have begun this Monday, in Caracas, a cycle of meetings and work tables which will last until tomorrow, when regional agreements are expected to be signed.

The activity, organized by the Government of Venezuela, includes discussions on food sustainability, communicable and non-communicable diseases, spatial capacities, mitigation and adaptation to the climate crisis, digital transformation and artificial intelligence, science for social inclusion and the exchange of ancestral knowledge.

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, has led the opening of the meeting, which, he has stressed, “is the first of high science and technology authorities in Latin America”, which, he has predicted, will allow “opening the bases of a roadmap for the coming years.

“With the effort that we are making in our scientific institutes, we are advancing towards a better world and we have to find the mechanisms to articulate and build our own scientific-technological model,” he said, quoted in an official note.

For her part, the Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, has declared through Twitter that the work tables had already been installed to “analyze and build strategies that make it possible to attend to areas of interest that respond to the common needs” of the region.

It will be “a space for dialogue focused on promoting the exchange of knowledge and scientific activity, to agree on solutions to shared problems, based on respect for values ​​and ethical principles that preserve the planet”, the minister pointed out.

According to the information published by the Government, at least representatives from Mexico, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba, Argentina, Saint Kitts and Nevis, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Colombia, Honduras, Paraguay, Nicaragua, Belize participate in the meeting. , Dominica, Bahamas and Suriname, as well as ECLAC and Unesco.
