With Ju Buk festival, women’s literature returns to Scanno

The socio-economic effects of the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the women’s revolution in Iran, the Balkan and Mediterranean migration routes. Rich in stimuli and miscellany of suggestions, this third edition of the all-female Ju Buk Literary Festival (which in local jargon indicates the saddlebag of the transhumant shepherd) directed by the sociologist and journalist Eleonora de Nardis Giansante, which will take place from 28 to 30 July in Scanno, an ancient village in the Abruzzo National Park, loved by the photographers Cartier Bresson and Giacomelli, under the high patronage of the MiC and the Abruzzo Region.

The third day will see the award-winning mystery writer Piera Carlomagno as protagonists with The cold cut of the moon (Solferino) and the Afro-Neapolitan Djarah Khan with her acclaimed Thieves of teeth (People).

In the sign of the generational relay, the Ju Buk Opera Prima award is back, entrusted to the artistic direction of Valeria Gargiullo, Salani’s enfant prodige and winner of the last John Fante Award. Godmother of the event was the actress Valentina Melis, activist for civil rights and equal opportunities and testimonial of the Differenza Donna association. During the presentations it will be possible to admire the works of the Abruzzo artist Giusi Michini, contemporary sculptures created exclusively, drawing inspiration from the main themes of Ju Buk.

In past editions the festival had hosted great names in Italian literature, from Nadia Terranova to Valeria Parrella to Donatella Di Pietrantonio: now it returns with its three days of books and genre culture and promises to leave a significant mark on the festival scene once again summer literature.
