Denis Kadima, President of the CENI

The Independent National Electoral Commission plans to meet shortly with political leaders, particularly those of the opposition, around the ongoing electoral process in the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to Dénis Kadima Kazadi, these exchanges aim to explore realistic solutions for a more inclusive electoral process.

“The members of the Independent National Electoral Commission are all driven by good faith and a high sense of ethics, which is why the CENI acts independently to ensure the conduct of transparent elections that are worthy of public opinion. This is how I announce the holding in the coming days of meetings with political leaders, particularly those of the opposition. This approach aims above all to explore together realistic solutions for a more inclusive process”, said Dénis Kadima this Sunday, June 25, 2023 on the occasion of the convocation of the electorate for the national legislative elections.

On behalf of his institution, he reassured about the implementation of various recommendations from the external audit of the electoral register.

“The CENI undertakes to implement all the recommendations of the audit, mainly the advance publication of the lists of voters”, he reassured in his communication.

A section of civil society and political actors oppose the way the current CENI leadership team is conducting the ongoing electoral process. Martin Fayulu, Moise Katumbi, Delly Sesanga and Augustin Matata have multiplied actions against power in recent days. They “unite their ideas and forces to carry out common actions in order to obtain the organization of the elections within the constitutional deadline”.

Gathering around them other opponents, they call on the population “to resist and exercise citizen vigilance”. These four candidates undertake to remain united in the unity of ideas and actions to “bring to a successful conclusion the struggle of the Congolese people for a true rule of law”.

They also appeal to civil society and announce a series of actions to “bring their demands to fruition”. Their first large-scale activity was the march on May 20, which aimed to denounce “the growing insecurity, the high cost of living and the misery of the people, the chaotic electoral process”.
