I watched the congress of the People’s Front party with joy. It was not just a feeling born of party bigotry. The people who resisted the most stable, most competent, greedy regime of the 21st century are an exceptional historical fact. My heart is a sacrifice for the person who lives in the most remote village, even without any special activism, who presents himself as “I am an oppositionist, a frontman”. Because I am familiar with the courage, deprivation, and refusal behind this simple statement. In a place where total fear, arbitrariness and flattery reign, it is not the job of every brave person to make that statement and stick to it.
Is there a second socio-political group that was subjected to political pressures, arrests, tortures and oppressions as much as the front-line workers in the years of Aliyev’s invasion? No. However, how does it happen that successive repressions made this organization stronger instead of destroying it. Those who tried to “protect their heads” and those who went in search of a “constructive, different way of struggle” were “taught” to the frontliners, some of them evaporated, some turned into lambs of the regime. This is also natural. There is no easy, short, magical way to progress, to fight against the totalitarian regime. This path requires constant training, training, hard work. Frontliners can do it too. Love them.
