Chennai Minister Senthil Balaji’s Judicial Custody Extended till July 12: Latest Updates

Chennai: The Madras Principal Sessions Court has extended the judicial custody of Minister Senthil Balaji till July 12.

On June 14, the Enforcement Directorate arrested Minister Senthil Balaji in the case of Prohibition of Illegal Money Transfer Act. He was then admitted to Omanturar Government Pannoku Hospital due to chest pain.

Madras Principal Sessions Judge S. Alli, who visited him at the hospital, ordered Senthil Balaji to be remanded in judicial custody and produced again on June 28.

The High Court then ordered Senthil Balaji to undergo a heart surgery. Subsequently, he was shifted to a private hospital where he underwent bypass surgery.

In this case, the Chief Sessions Judge had allowed the enforcement department to keep Senthil Balaji in a private hospital for 8 days and conduct an investigation. However, the enforcement department had told the court that they could not keep him in the hospital for investigation.

In this case, Senthil Balaji’s court custody ended yesterday, he was produced for court hearing yesterday evening from a private hospital through video.

Then Principal Sessions Judge S. Alli asked him, “How are you now?” To which Senthil Balaji said, “There is still some pain.”

Accordingly, the judge has extended the court custody of Senthil Balaji till July 12.
