Faced with the violence that continued in France after the death of Nahel, Éric Ciotti called on Thursday for the triggering of a “state of emergency” wherever incidents broke out. “Town halls and police stations attacked, destruction of street furniture, theft of equipment from the police, burnt tram… This is the result of a night of riots and looting which will cost millions of euros”, deplores in a press release the president of the Republicans.

“In no case can the Republic submit. I call for the immediate initiation of a state of emergency wherever incidents have broken out,” he continues. The deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes also attacked rebellious France, accusing its elected officials of “blowing on the embers of chaos”.

“Armed gangs sought to kill policemen, targeted homes and even tried to free prisoners in Fresnes. (…) This is the result of the factious methods of the rebels. Shame on those who blow on the embers of chaos. Mr. Mélenchon dreams of a revolution but only offers the French people the fear and the danger of an insurrection”, he further underlined.

“Scenes of unjustifiable violence”

Incidentally, the boss of the Republicans repeated his “full support for the police”, without mentioning the death of young Nahel, killed on Tuesday by an agent during a traffic check. Earlier in the morning, the president of Reconquête, Eric Zemmour, had also called on Twitter to the “implementation of a state of emergency” to “restore order and peace”.

The violence continued overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, with a total of 150 people arrested, according to the Interior Ministry. Hundreds of people again clashed with the police in several towns in the suburbs of Paris and France, claiming to be “there for Nahel”.

This Thursday, President Emmanuel Macron denounced “scenes of violence” against “institutions and the Republic” describing them as “unjustifiable”. A white march is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the capital of Hauts-de-Seine, at the call of the family of the young driver.
