CaixaBank announced this Thursday that it has been recognized as the leading bank in environmental, social and good governance (ESG) loans worldwide in the ‘Sustainable Finance Awards 2023’ of the US magazine Global Finance.
Likewise, the entity has also been awarded the leading financial institution in support of society in Western Europe, for which reason, for the first time, CaixaBank has obtained two awards in these awards.
The Global Finance ‘Sustainable Finance Awards’, which were delivered last night in London, seek to recognize leading entities in sustainable finance that promote initiatives aimed at mitigating the negative impacts of climate change and helping to build a more sustainable future for humanity.
In this third edition, the winners were chosen by the editors of the magazine on the basis of the candidacies submitted and a subsequent independent research work, which analyzed both government policies and the objectives of the entities in sustainable, social and environmental financing. , as well as the progress made during the year 2022.
The award to the bancolLíder in ESG loans rewards the entity’s commitment in this area. Within the framework of the 2022-2024 Strategic Plan, CaixaBank aims to mobilize 64,000 million euros in sustainable finance, through the promotion of various initiatives focused on product offerings, ESG advice, awareness-raising and training. In 2022, the entity mobilized 23,583 million, of which 20,633 million are sustainable financing, and 2,950 million euros, from sustainable intermediation.
For its part, the award as the leading bank in support of society in Western Europe “reflects the social vocation” of the entity, “which is manifested in its commitment to financial inclusion, support for the most vulnerable groups, training and the promotion of entrepreneurship, among other aspects”, as they defended from CaixaBank.
In this area, CaixaBank has MicroBank, which has mobilized more than 8,700 million euros in almost 1.3 million projects with a social impact since it was founded in 2007. Of these, more than 7,900 million euros correspond to microcredits, with special weight of those destined to face specific needs of families, and of those granted to start up or consolidate businesses of entrepreneurs and micro-enterprises.
