The longing of hundreds of Colombians, animalists or not, to find Wilson, the four-legged hero of “Operation Hope” is such that many hope that the Military Forces can find him in the jungle -where he was lost- or in any other place after three weeks of searching.

That happened in Huila, where some people recorded a stray dog that they believed was Wilson, a Belgian Malinois Shepherd trained to collaborate in the toughest search and rescue missions carried out by the authorities.

However, that illusion of having found the canine soon faded, as the Army denied that the animal captured on video was Wilson.

According to the newspaper El Tiempo, a source from the institution confirmed that, after a series of verifications, it was found that the dog that appears in the recording is not the canine that was born in the Army kennel in Chiquinquirá, Boyacá.

“A frame-by-frame work was carried out with the images of the one who appeared in the video and photos of Wilson and his parents, flatly ruling out that it was; the morphological characteristics did not coincide,” the source explained to the Bogota newspaper.

Likewise, he indicated that it was unlikely that Wilson would have reached Huila, since the distance between the Guaviare jungle and that department –although close compared to other places– is more than 600 kilometers, “which due to its physical condition, for sure, it would not have been able to cover”.

Wilson was honored this week during the recognition ceremony for the work carried out by indigenous people and thousands of people together during “Operation Hope”; However, in that same event, the authorities were not very optimistic and indicated that “it is almost unlikely that we can find it.”

“Wilson is a command of ours, we have done everything in our power, we have spared no effort to find him, but we are aware that it is almost unlikely that we will be able to find him,” said General Pedro Sánchez, who led “Operation Hope ”.

The professional soldier Cristian David Cuaran Lara, who was in charge of Wilson, is still in the jungle looking for the dog along with about 30 other commandos, but there is no trace of him. The search would be suspended in the coming days.
