According to several English media, English international midfielder Mason Mount (24, 36 caps) will move from Chelsea to Manchester United against a check for 70 million euros.
Manchester United will sign English midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea for a fee of 60 million pounds (nearly 70 million euros) including bonuses, English media reported on Thursday.
The 24-year-old, whose contract with Chelsea expires at the end of next season, has reportedly agreed to a five-year lease, with an option for a further year.
The attacking midfielder is coming off a difficult season in which he scored just three Premier League goals, due to declining form and injuries.
In Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag’s first season, Manchester United finished third in the Premier League and won the League Cup, but the club struggled to score goals.
Champions League winner
Trained at Chelsea, Mount was transferred to Vitesse Arnhem in 2017 then hardened up at Derby County before returning to the Blues in 2019 where he exploded at the top level. He has 27 goals and 22 assists in 129 Premier League appearances for the Blues.
Winner of the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, he was selected 36 times for the England team with which he participated in the Euro 2020 final lost against Italy.
Mount is the fifth major player to leave the Blues since the opening of the summer transfer window, following the departures of goalkeeper Édouard Mendy, defender Kalidou Koulibaly and midfielder N’Golo Kanté who joined the Saudi league as well as midfielder Mateo Kovacic pitch in Manchester City, current Premier League champions.
Since the arrival of Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino, the London club have been looking to reduce their bloated squad after spending lavishly over the past year.
