Mexico City, June 29 (EFE).- The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, met this Thursday with the lawyer of the former Peruvian president Pedro Castillo in Mexico and said that the lawyer not only defends the justice of one man but of everything a town.

The Mexican president reported on social networks about the meeting at the National Palace.

“Guido Croxatto, President Pedro Castillo’s lawyer, visited me. I agree with him that defending Castillo is defending justice, not just for one man but for an entire people,” López Obrador said in his message.

“Hopefully the UN will come out of its lethargy,” he added.

At the end of May, the Mexican ruler described President Dina Boluarte as a “usurper” and said that he should leave “the Presidency to the one who won in a free and democratic election, to Pedro Castillo,” who has been in prison since December 7. after being dismissed by the Peruvian Congress after attempting a coup.

And he reiterated that Mexico would not hand over the Presidency of the Pacific Alliance to her “because she is not legally and legitimately president of Peru.”

Just this Wednesday, the Peruvian Prime Minister, Alberto Otárola, assured that he expects an “orderly transfer” of the pro tempore Presidency of the Pacific Alliance, which Chile provisionally received and, later, will hand it over to Peru, since Mexico he refused to do so directly for political reasons.

Regarding the possibility that President Boluarte would travel to Chile to receive the pro tempore Presidency, he recalled that Congress has approved a law so that she can govern virtually and, therefore, receive authorization to leave the country, but reported that this rule It has not yet been officially promulgated.

Peruvian law prevents Boluarte from leaving the country as he does not have a vice president who remains in charge of the head of state during the absence of the president.

The decision was adopted at a meeting held in Santiago de Chile, in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile; the ambassador of Mexico in Chile, Alicia Bárcena; the business manager of Peru in Chile, Renzo Villa Prado, and the business manager of Colombia in Chile, René Correa.

The transfer of the pro tempore Presidency of the Pacific Alliance was paralyzed last December after the failed self-coup of the then Peruvian president Pedro Castillo (2021-2022), which led to his dismissal by Congress.

Boluarte, until then vice president-elect in the formula headed by Castillo, assumed the Presidency of Peru, but the Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador has not recognized her as such and has branded her as a “usurper.”

For this reason, it has refused to hand over the pro tempore Presidency of the bloc to Peru, which will finally receive it on August 1 through Chile. EFE
