The fourth edition of the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off this Saturday, June 24. Morocco, the host country, face Guinea in the opening match at the Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat at 8 p.m. Morlaye Cissé, coach of Syli National U-23, appeared in the pre-match conference accompanied by his player Algassime Bah.
Facing the media, the Guinean technician let it be known that his team is preparing in very good conditions before stressing that his ambition is to be among the best in this tournament. He also took the opportunity to ask for the support of Guinean fans. “The atmosphere is very good in the group. We are very happy to be here. Since our arrival, everything has gone well (…) our preparations continue. It’s already an honor for us to be there and to be drawn for this opening match against Morocco and we have prepared very well from Conakry until now. The group has been together for almost three weeks. We arrived with the ambition to achieve a result. This Moroccan team is no longer to be presented throughout Africa, we have exactly what it represents (…) for us, the objective is to achieve a good result in order to be able to continue the rest of the competition » , reports the Feguifoot.
He then declares that the mentality remains the same since the beginning of the preparations for this competition (…) “When we are on the ground, we try to give the maximum of us. This is what the players do regularly (…) Against Morocco, we come to approach this match with a lot of serenity”. The objective is clear for the Guinean coach. He plans to be in Paris next summer for the Olympics. “To go there, you know exactly what you have to do. We have three group matches, we must already approach this first match against Morocco to try to have a good result, then we have two other matches and we must do what is necessary so that at the finish we can to be in the first two places. He hopes to celebrate a victory with the Guinean supporters.
No pressure
For his part, striker Algassime Bah spoke of the cohesion that reigns within the group. He said he and his teammates are under no pressure on the eve of this opening match against the host country. “We have no pressure. We are playing against Morocco, which everyone knows in Africa. We came here with zero pressure. We did a lot of things that nobody expected until then because we never put pressure on ourselves. We do our work on the ground. Then we’ll see what will happen. But we are very confident.”
The Olympiakos player promises that his team is very close. “Like a family. We all know each other from several categories. We played together and that’s what we’ll try to keep. We talk even if we are not in selection.
Algassime Bah does not set a personal goal. However, he intends to “help the group as much as possible. We are all counting on everyone’s participation. We are a group. We have to count on everyone to achieve our ambitions. I hope it does and we’ll see what happens next.”
