The first infopoint was installed inside Palazzo Ducale in Genoa offering information on the railway works of the Single Third Pass Project and Genoa junction, with specific news on the works in progress in Liguria and Piedmont. With a view to total transparency, others will follow in the main Genoese stations as well as in the areas involved in the construction sites for the railway works. The infopoints in Genoa, like the others, consist of temporary structures in which panels are displayed that illustrate the layout of the work, the technical characteristics, updated data on the progress of the works, attention to the environment and socio-economic impact on territories and people.

The Third Pass represents an important part of the corridor TEN-T “Rhine-Alps”: 3,900 km of railway network in one of the most industrialized and populated areas of Europe. This is the connection of Genoa with the ports of Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Antwerp and Brugge, a fundamental axis for the transport of passengers and above all of goods. Due to its technical characteristics, in particular the slope and the width of the tunnels, much higher than the existing ones, the new line is defined as “high capacity” and will allow the transit of trucks loaded on freight trains and High Cube containers. At the same time, it will also allow the passage of long-distance passenger trains, reducing travel times between Genoa and Milan and between Genoa and Turin. The new line, which meets the new European interoperability standards, is 53 km long, 80% of which in tunnels, and involves 14 Municipalities in the provinces of Genoa and Alessandria.

The interventions underway on the Genoa junction are also of fundamental importance with two macro-interventions: the “sextuplication” of the Principe-Brignole section and the “quadrupling” of the Genoa Veltri-Genoa Sampierdarena section. The two new tracks will guarantee the upgrading of the section between Genoa Brignole and Voltri with an increase in the capacity of the lines of the very busy node, opening it to the upgrading of the frequency of trains, through the separation of the regional and metropolitan ones from the long-distance and freight ones. This work will also allow the connection between the last mile of the Third Pass of Giovi and the Port of Prà–Voltri and the historic port of Genoa. Finally, the Single Project also provides for the intervention in Genoa Campasso with the restoration of the functionality of the double-track line Bivio Fegio-parco Cam passo -ex junction S. Limbania, for about 5 km, exploiting the layout of the existing line currently disused .
